Hygge For The Holiday Bedroom

As a yogi, raw vegan, or someone passionate about eco - friendly mores pursuing holistic living, you understand the importance of wellness in all aspects of your life. One often overlooked element in enhancing your wellBEing is prioritizing Hygge, pronounced "hooga". Hygge is achieved by the process of creating comfort and happiness so you feel authentically hugged by your environment - that specific feeling of comfort, peace, and joy. It is actually quite healing.

Hygge increases happiness, lowers stress levels, strengthens connections with loved ones, brings you into the present moment, improves sleep and rest and helps you feel secure. We also benefit by lowering anxiety and depression which are the leading causes of disability around the world.

While this practice works for any environment, let's focus our attention on the bedroom. We spend a good amount of our time in this particular space making the bedroom quite important to improving overall wellness. So how do we cozy - up our bedroom?

Create Your Space:

  1. De-clutter & Organize

  2. Aromatherapy

  3. Proper Bedding for Warmth & Comfort

  4. Lighting (candles, dimmers, lamps)

  5. Treat, Snack or Drink

Think cuddle time. Young children naturally look for assets that help bring them even more comfort - like a favorite blanket or stuffed animal that kindles a special note of joy. This requires you take several steps back from seeing sleep as just a function. Accept that it is great to indulge in a bedroom that puts a comforting, peaceful smile in your heart.

This is not a time to cuddle and watch TV or be busy on mobile devices and computers. This is a time to truly be present in the moment and enjoy this time either alone or with loved ones.

Step 1: De - Clutter & Organize

Make room for space. A busy space invites a busy mind. Remnants of bills, work, and problems will discourage hygge entirely. In truth, I advocate a TV - free bedroom. If you haven't tried it, give yourself an opportunity to explore this option. If you are worried about your wind - down time, consider focusing on how to adjust your schedule to accommodate healthier options for winding down before bed. My personal experience and reports from others is that their sleep is improved. Sleeping hours are the best time for our bodies to actively heal, while we simply enjoy a good night's rest. It's important for the body to get the best rest. What does your bedroom communicate to you? Setup an environment that encourages warmth, relaxation, joy and happiness, love, peace... the incredible feedback is instant. We have all had those moments where we entered a room that had an immediate effect on our happiness. This awesome moment is felt right through the core of our being.

Step 2: Setting the Foundation - Cozy Bedding

Holiday comfort in the bedroom begins with a cozy bed. The bedding you choose can significantly impact your wellBEing. It's where you begin and end your day, providing much - needed rest and rejuvenation. Having options for comfort available at your fingertips is essential for a restful night's sleep. Consider including additional layers like a plush duvet, multiple cushions, or a weighted blanket to cater to your preferences. These options allow you to tailor your bedding to suit your unique comfort needs, fostering a deep sense of relaxation and tranquility. When selecting bedding, opt for soft, organic materials like cotton or bamboo to enhance comfort and delight in eco - friendly living. Incorporating holiday - themed colors and designs can also add a festive touch to your bedroom sanctuary.

Layer your bedding with decor you love. Add personal touches such as holiday - inspired throw pillows, a warm knitted blanket, or twinkling fairy lights to create a cozy ambiance. By surrounding yourself with decor that brings you joy, you elevate your mood and create a space that resonates with your essence. Include textures and colors that evoke feelings of peace and happiness.

Step 3: Lighting

Adjust lighting so you have the advantage of creating warmth. Candlelight is amazing for this type of environment - including flameless candles. If using a lamp, look for bulb options that include dimming ability, and warm, amber tones. If you have a fireplace in your bedroom, this lighting works great for creating that warm ambiance.

Step 4: Aromatherapy

If you so desire, bringing intentional aromas into your special space is a large advancement to deepening your comfort and happiness. Use a diffuser, light a candle, use a linen spray or room spray, or dabble an aromatic blend onto your wrist. Maybe indulge in an aromatic bath or shower before resorting to your bedroom. Consult with an Aromatherapist to get added guidance or even a custom aromatic blend to enjoy for the holiday season. In case you venture on your own, remember, you don't want any synthetic fragrance(s). The fake and adulterated oils and fragrances will never do for a high quality experience.

Step 5: A Cozy Favorite Treat

Food can enhance our participation and experience in the moment. Many think of enjoying sweets after dinner and before bed. So many options, and you know your favorites. Try a serving of Chocolate Avocado Mousse, Chai Tea, Hot Chocolate, Vanilla Cupcake, Carrot Cake, Berry Pie, or favorite cookies. Either way, make it fun and something you really look forward to.

Step 6: Cozy Pajamas for the Holidays

If you are into watching holiday television programs and movies, you may find this a bit of a cliché. I have a nack for appreciating awesome pajamas. And during the holidays, even moreso I looked forward to easing into my bed with my favorite warm pajamas or nightgown. You don't need to wear holiday themed pajamas, but great sleepwear add a certain je ne sais quoi to enjoying the evening and gliding off into a cozy sleep. I suggest natural fibers like organic cotton and flannel. If your holidays are in a warm region for the season, cotton and bamboo are great options. Don't forget a great pair of winter slippers or socks so you are comforted head to toe.

Here are a few tips for searching winter holiday sleepwear:

  • Organic

  • Pesticide Free

  • Natural Materials (Cotton, Linen, Bamboo, Beech Tree, SeaCell, Hemp, Coconut, Wood, Soy)

There are many options to consider. Don't make this stressful though. Be kind to yourself.

Step 7: Enjoy Holiday Comfort and Christmas Happiness

By creating a cozy bed for the holiday season and indulging in a comforting treat, you set the stage for a blissful night of rest and relaxation. Prioritize self - care by creating a nurturing space where you can unwind, recharge, and rejuvenate. The combination of a soothing environment, plush bedding, and a delicious dessert contributes to a sense of holiday comfort and Christmas happiness that transcends beyond the physical realm, nurturing your overall wellBEing. If you share your bedroom, include details of coziness for your loved one(s) - because, of course, their happiness effects you too! This includes your pets. They are family as well!

Falling asleep in such an atmosphere stimulates an amazing way to awaken in the morning. Look forward to feeling motivated, focused, relaxed and ready.

May your nights be restful, your dreams sweet, and your heart full of holiday cheer. Here's to a cozy bed for the holiday season, where comfort, joy, and wellBEing intertwine to create a haven of tranquility amidst the hustle and bustle of the festive season.
